Luvit's Autumn 21 Window Display

I always enjoy redesigning Luvit's window display. In fact as a teenager I harboured a secret desire to be a professional window dresser. So, in many ways, Luvit has allowed me to live my dream!  The Autumn window is both easy and difficult. There are so many strong themes and colours associated with this time of year its quite easy to come up with ideas. But you may end up looking a little cliched if you don't add a few variations to your theme. One of my favourite shops is Anthropologie. I am not their biggest customer but I do love visiting their stores and taking in the way they display items and the themes, styles and colours they use....

Barmouth Bridge has Closed...

...temporarily until 12 December 2021. Network Rail are in the process of conducting a £30 million refurbishment of Barmouth's iconic railway bridge. It's a large job and as a result the bridge is closed to rail AND foot traffic. The closures are from Sunday 12 September 2021 to Sunday 12 December 2021. And there will be further closures in 2022. See Network Rail's website for further details. There is a lot of work to do including; replacing a large number of timber and metal elements of the viaduct replacing all the planks of the bridge's bed on which the track sits replacing the entire length of track along the Grade II* listed bridge. Barmouth Apple & Blackberry Cobbler

Over this winter lockdown I have been make a pudding most evenings... I know...it's not great for the waistline. But its my treat for the day, something sweet to look forward to. I always have frozen fruit in the freezer so my go to pudding is usually a crumble with custard, cream or both! But a few weeks back I made a cobbler for a change, it was really yummy. It was made with Apple and Blackberries which I had picked last Autumn. You might of seen it on my instagram posts. I had quite a few of you ask for the recipe. So, here it is....Enjoy. A Brief History of Barmouth Bridge

When the Aberystwyth and Welsh Coast Railway arrived at Fairbourne in 1865, it was only a matter of time before the railway and its benefits should make the relatively short hop over the estuary. Soon, work to bridge the estuary was started by the engineer Benjamin Piercy and a Darlington contractor, the Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Co Ltd. The bridge consisted of 113 timber spans and an eight span iron section. Each of the iron columns supporting the structure was around eight feet in diameter and had to sink 120 below sea level to find the rock floor. Also incorporated into the iron section was a rolling 'cock-and-draw' or 'over-draw' section which could be opened to allow tall sailing ships...
